In Seattle the tents pop up anywhere, places you wouldn't expect, tennis courts, grassy areas right off the sidewalk. Camps form, build, and get cleaned out routinely. When they are abandoned, it's horror show that's left behind - a biohazard. Most of the downtown area smells like a urinal. Whatever is being done, it isn't enough, and it will never be enough.

Of course, a lot of the homeless have mental issues, but most of the problem could be eliminated if people made better life choices.
Too much going to the rich. Reagan started this whole mess, and it gets worse year by year as the money gets concentrated in the hands of a few. It's just shocking and shameful that we let this happen.

Many of the new homeless made choices to get a paycheck by joining the military and now they are back from years in the middle east and out of the service and no more paychecks.
And, of course, all the major industrial and mfg are virtually gone from the U.S. I think women's SAS shoes are still produced in the U.S. But that could change before we know.
And yet we PAY the lobbyists mega amounts of money to bribe people to buy and buy and buy what they lobby.
Come on now guns are the cause of homelessness? Any valid arguement you had went out the window.
All that money going to mfg of weapons, could go to building low cost housing for all these humans living on the streets, parks, parking lots, etc etc...

Guns before people is what it is.
And so could all the trillions of dollars CASH our country has given to countries that hate us like Iran and NK. At least when it's spent on guns we have something to show for it.

Then do something about it. I like the idea of a poor black kid off the streets becoming a multi millionaire rapper or star sports athlete. Only in America do you hear so many rags to riches stories. Rare yea. Perfect no. But it's better than what they have in venesula, north korea, cuba, or china or any of the other socialist/communist countries where life is CHEAP:
I doubt highly that someone being homeless was due to their decision making skills. Circumstances outside their control play a key factor. Companies fold..and the person is left to use up any funds..all the while seeking a new source of income.
Technically a human can learn self sufficiency skills and high tail it to an area where they . Build camp and endure nature. Thus not dealing with 'corporate' America.
There is a surge in my area to hire vets before others. Nice incentive for business credits. Not so good for the skilled local who suddenly gets fired so they can hire that vet for 'credit' purpose.
Our local paper made it come off as how patriotic our businesses are in hiring vets...while Uncle John who had his 25 yrs at the company got ousted for this patriotic deed.
Anyone saying it's their own fault needs to write a book on ways to change that circumstance. Giving a trite response doesn't alleviate the facts. Be the change...not the bystander .
