We are turning on each other. Brother versus brother. American versus American. Cities are under siege, police cars and even a precinct building are set on fire by left wing anarchists, while right wing extremists storm and trash the Capitol building.

Corporate titans and tech tycoons seem on the verge of taking over all aspects of American life including the government, entertainment, sports, business, and especially social media in a time when in-person meetings are largely forbidden.

To stop or slow the self-destruction we need a common outside enemy. We risk a civil war if we don't get into a foreign war. China and Russia are out of the question for a shooting war. So how about Iran? Or if that's too much, how about Venezuela? Libya? Could we maybe send in troops as part of a multi-national coalition, to come to the aid of a beleaguered ethnic minority in sub-Saharan Africa? Is there some genocide happening in the world that the CIA is waiting to "discover"?

Foreign wars are a well-worn trope when there's unrest at home. Sometimes it works, as when we bombed Serbia to divert attention from DC diddling ("Operation Wag the Dog") and sometimes it ends in disaster like when Argentina invaded the Falklands in 1982.

What do we think? Is it too late, or too early? Is there never a good time for a war, or never a bad time for one?

So long as the democrats side with socialism, any war with another country will likely be socialistic which would divide the nation further. Just like the Viet Nam war.

Disease is our common, outside enemy. And look how the pandemic has been handled. Aside from pandemics, what have we as a nation done to protect our citizens from the common enemy of disease that attacks our lives, our liberty, and our pursuit of happiness? Disease and other health issues that leave many Americans in debt or impoverished?

We spend billions on our military, often fighting unnecessary wars overseas and enriching the arms manufacturers. I think that it would behoove us to funnel some of those billions into fighting the enemy that attacks us in our own homes and our workplaces. National healthcare should be a priority.

We don't need to go looking for trouble in other countries as a contrived means for unification -- we've got enough real trouble right here at home that needs to be addressed. We need healthier citizens for a healthier nation.

We don't need another wars.

Just need to get rid of the so called leadership in DC. They have been there for a few decades and have failed this country.

Take Nancy Pelosi as an example. She has been in Congress since 1987 and she is 80 years old. She has long passed her retirement age.

Mitch McConnel is another example. He has been in the Senate since 1985 and he is 78.

The disease may have started as an outside enemy first coming from China and then from Europe. But that's long forgotten and domestic spread of the disease is the main reason why we are at each other's throats right now.

We can't agree on a strategy for fighting it even with multiple vaccines available, because one side has to get the blame and the other side has to get the credit. Meanwhile people continue to die and businesses continue to close and survivors continue to despair.

Who in San Francisco will vote Nancy out, and who in Kentucky will vote Mitch out?

No, it's much easier to go to war. Iran has been rattling sabers lately, so they may provide the pretext even if they are not our preferred enemy at the moment.

The governmental bureaucracy that initially failed to properly address the threat of this pandemic is the same governmental bureaucracy that causes problems by starting wars. Regardless of whichever political "side" is at fault, problems only get sorted out when the people hold the government accountable.

Since the start of the pandemic, I have seen extraordinary acts of kindness and cooperation from common folks. I believe that America can and will pull together to battle this common enemy of disease that we have.

Hopefully, Americans will hold the government accountable for protecting the nation against subsequent attacks of disease that rob us of our unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

What have Iran done to the US?

Are you volunteering to go? Or you are happy to send other people’s children?

They have threatened to kill U.S. citizens on U.S. soil. This threat was issued by the government, not by a chanting mob in the street.

I'm a rando on C-D just like you. I assure you I am not a high U.S. government official and I am not connected with the Pentagon. Don't shoot the messenger.

I'd recommend just going outside and actually chatting with our neighbours and getting outside the echo chamber instead of a war. Seems easier and is a more long lasting solution when we realize that most people are actually good people. In essence that's kind of what city data does and why it's a cool website, it allows us to see the people on the other side and talk with them.
