Nothing infuriates me more is how many hundreds of BILLIONS have been spent on killing people that ultimately have no consequence yet funding for schools, mental health facilities, hospitals, clinics, etc. etc. are always having trouble scraping by. Why does it have to be this way? Why is it if spending money on social programs, helping to stabilize the economy, helping to fund education etc. is always such a struggle yet as soon as politicians get any reason at all, no matter how flimsy to kill foreign people 99% of which have absolutely no threat to our national security they all collectively get an orgasm and happily throw in billions??

I agree with you that the US meddles too much with war in foreign countries. That said money on military is well spent in my opinion. "Walk softly but carry a big stick." Most people alive today were not old enough to witness the world wars. America was caught unprepared and weak and was declared war on by multiple countries. I don't think anybody wants to see that happen again.

I agree that money should also be spent domestically especially on the mental asylums. Way too many crazy people walking the streets screaming at walls or violently punching and kicking while walking down the street. I saw plenty of that in portland last week. Scary as hell. Got some nice cell phone vids to laugh at later though.

War costs money...social programs make/save money, and are a drop in the bucket compared monetarily, to military spending.
The gov would rather spend trillions of your tax dollers every year on the military than on it's own homeland people's welfare.
Get the people all riled up about the cost of welfare programs and helping the poor...keep their minds off the TRILLIONS spent sticking fingers into some other countries pie.

They're not trying to kill people, they are trying to stop people from killing you. Even after 9-11 there were too many people who wouldn't leave there homes, wouldn't go to work, or send there kids to school. They didn't plan on starting this war, there responding so that you can feel safe and free enough to go on with your life and lattes.

To say that they have killed 99% of them for no reason really should be enough to not even bother with this thread.

The Defense Department budget and funding for schools, mental health facilities, hospitals, clinics, etc have nothing to do with each other.

The DoD is a constitutionally mandated function of the federal government.

Funding for schools, mental health facilities, hospitals, clinics, etc are functions of state and local governments.

War makes a lot of short term money while adding vastly to the long term debt- it reduces productivity for generations due to the PTSD and suicides and other social implications.

The Military Industrial Complex doesn't sit around and consider that they are taking food out of the mouths of hungry American children.

The US is a violent nation - always has been. Most every generation has been militarized in some manner or another - which provides a continuation of the same basic policies. The populace, in general, supports war and cheers when the bombs are dropping. Notice how much of our system and culture involve "thanking them for keeping us free" even if a war or action has absolutely nothing to do with that.

We also have a very large underclass in the USA and the military is often the only way forward for them. Millions that got sent to Iraq and Afghanistan never expected to fight a war...signed up for the training and benefits and perhaps educational opportunities.

It's too late now. The money is already spent and we moved the means to make more money overseas. The country is largely left to "make money" by extracting wealth from us all in these main ways:
1. The Military industrial security state complex.
2. The Medical complex - takes 9K per person per year in a predatory fashion.
3. Wall Street - creates the recessions and depressions and dent to keep most people slaves to their paychecks.

That's it - nothing left after that especially when we've run up a 20 trillion debt already. Any money which is made is going to corporations and stockholders, not to The People.

This country needs a true revolution - no, not a Trump! The people have to reject Capitalism as it stands...that is, unregulated predatory corporate international capitalism and construct a system that is actually For The People.

But will they do it - or will they binge watch Netflix and take more pills and a drink?

So basically the vast majority of people both in congress and business could not be any more ethically and morally bankrupt?

Not to be sexist, but isn't this a good reason why we need far more women in positions of power, being that unlike men, Because women do not define themselves, their worth, or their womanhood by having power over others, by their ability to fight or kill and exploit others for personal gain.

We are not very good at empire building by military means. Certainly we do better with Coca-Cola, Ford, Boeing and Caterpillar than with drones.

Truly we need to cut back the influence of the military in foreign affairs.

But you know we have a long tradition... Beneath the starry flag, we'll civilize em with a Krag.
