This may sound a little strange but I have a question about earthquake victims. People have been found alive in Haiti because they had water or drank their own urine. If your only drink is urine won't it eventually run dry. How many times can a person urinate to produce enough liquid to live? Weeks?

Another question: if the only thing to drink was alcohol would the person be drunk all the time? Doesn't alcohol make a person thirsty? If all a person had was liquor would he/she die of alcohol overdose eventually?

It is very likey to drink alcohol, maybe with the exception of wine and beer, it will dehydrate anyone faster. With beer or wine, you may live longer, but not a lot as it too will dehydrate you, just slower.

It is very likey to drink urine, you are on deaths door, and it may extend live a few hours, which goes for salt water from the sea as well. Drinking these almost insures death.

Most people can not live past 3 days with 0 water. 0 water isn't sitting in a raft at sea, or being rained on, which will extend life in a limited way.

Air, water, shelter including cloths, food are the things you need to survive in order of importance. Most can last three minutes without air, two or three days without water, first cold without shelter and weeks to months without food. all this applies to a health human to start. The sick, wounded or injured, or very young or very old die sooner.

You can drink your own urine a few times if I recall correctly, before it becomes too concentrated in salts etc. If you have the right set up you can set up a condenser to just get the water off of it but that would require some materials and sunlight not being trapped in a 4foot rubble pocket.

I can't see drinking urine buying you much more time than the 3 days cited.
(You can also filter it through clothing which would help some.)

Even most hard liquor is only 20% alchohol. Beer, especially mass consumption stuff like say...Miller Lite you would be fine just having a couple a day and having a case handy would likely extend your life a week.

Hmmm......my own urine or Miller Lite. That's a tough choice actually as they both taste the same

Seriously though, he's right, a 12-pack of beer would keep you going for days if necessary. I have a pack of survival tools set aside for emergencies, it has water and some purification tabs....perhaps I should add some alcohol to my supplies. Hard liquor can be used to sterilize wounds, correct?
