I am a 65 yr. old retiree living on the West Central coast of Fla. and have been for the last 13 yrs. I don't know how I survived living here for so long but due to circumstances beyond my control I had to stay. I am now more than ready to move out. I moved here from the northeast corner of Pa. Some of you might know it as the Pocono's. Long cold snowy winters. Mountains and high elevation make for very brutal winters. Weighed the pros and cons of going back home and I guess I have to be realistic. Am I ready to endure those winters at my age. ? Probably not ! I am relatively in good health and consider myself a young and active 65 yr. old. but as much as I miss home, reality has set in. I have a step daughter that lives in the suburbs of Greensboro and has been there for several yrs. now and likes it. She is a single Mom with 2 young teenage boys and so her circumstances and priorities are different than mine. Always nice to be near someone you know and so hence that area was my first choice. I would probably be renting and would prefer to be with people of all ages. Not quite ready for the whole retirement community thing. Basically I am looking for any info about the area, cost of car ins. how would u rate the medical care, city vs. suburbs and the overall cost of living for a retiree. Living here in Fla I am used to high utility bills for the long hot summers and so that is not too much of a concern. Any info from other retiree's or anyone living in that area would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. !
