We are traveling to Mt Airy next week from Raleigh. I am looking for tourist sites in the Winston-Salem area. Are there any gardens, old cemeteries, mansion to tour, etc?

Reynolda House has a house tour of course including the gallery. The gardens at Reynolda are free. There is an arboretum at Tanglewood Park. Horne Creek Historical Farm has a house and farmyard tour, with supporting gardens. There are numerous houses and gardens to tour in Old Salem. The Edwards/Franklin house (1799) near Lowgap closer to Mt Airy has house tours, but check online for times and events. There is a homestead open for visitors to Stone Mountain State Park in Wilkes/Alleghany Co. The ruins of Col. Jack Martin's Rock House in Stokes County are worth a visit....his gravesite is about half mile away. There are beautiful cemeteries in Winston-Salem (Salem/God's Acre, Bethabara, and Bethania), Elkin (Hollywood Cemetery), and Mocksville (Joppa, where Daniel Boone's parents are buried).

Oh, and I forgot about Korner's Folly in Kernersville. It is fasinating, and no other place like it. There is a botanical garden just down the street from the folly.

Agreed. Very good.

I'd just add a jaunt up to the top of Pilot Mountain. It's not a museum or garden, but if you're traveling between Mt. Airy and Winston, you're bound to be curious about it. One of the most distinctive natural features in North Carolina.

I don't have anything to add, but I hope OP enjoys their visit.
