Anybody have any advice for Home Security Systems? I don't want to spend more than $30/month, but I do want something I feel will help secure our home. I don't have a LAN line, so it would need to work via cellular system. Also, I don't really want to get roped into a 3 or 4 year commitment. Actually would prefer something that is a monthly basis only.
I use Carolina Alarm out of Winston-Salem. They use the same central monitoring stations that many other smaller companies use. We paid around $250 for the equipment, and pay $225.00 per year for monitoring ($18.75 per month). I think they charge an extra $5 per month for cell-based service, and the equipment might cost a bit more (I'm thinking of upgrading to cell-based service myself). I don't know if they will do month-to-month, but they might since the monthly service doesn't subsidize the equipment cost. We get billed one year at a time.

The biggest thing is, as long as I could cancel at any time - that's kind of what I was referring to with "month to month". So, it would probably be a hair shy of $24/month for us, since we don't have a LAN line and would need to use it with cellular service. Is the equipment wireless?
I don't know if all the equipment is wireless for the cell based service. We have a traditional wired system using our Time Warner phone. I would call Carolina Alarm to see if they do month-to-month.
Have you considered SimpliSafe or other systems that you self-install and are completely wireless? I know SimpliSafe doesn't do annual contracts.
edit: Carolina Alarm's website specifically states "Monthly and Quarterly payment options available with a slight increase". Don't know what the upcharge would be.

OK, cool! Thanks! I will check out SimpliSafe.
