Had such a great experience when I was there. Reminded me of a more casual Raleigh. Why is it not in the conversation as much as Greensboro/Durham?

Winston is anything but stagnant The downtown compared to what was 10-15 years ago is night and day... Innovation Quarter, the ballpark, new hotels and restaurants. There are plenty of festivals and access to the arts as well as outdoor activities close by.

We just moved here but I get the feeling a lot of people would like it to continue to stay under the radar.

You could use the word stable rather than stagnant. There, does that make you feel better?

Perhaps it's just that other NC cities are booming at such a rate it only looks stable by comparison.

I apologize. I just don't understand why it's growing slower than Greensboro. Been to both and still don't get it lol. This isn't an attack against Winston-Salem at all. It's a great city at the very least. Like you said it's growing, and will continue to.

No need to apologize! I have seen it change so much for the better since my husband and I went to school here 15 years ago. Downtown used to clear out at 5 pm. Not so much now! I think it is just a misconception that it is stagnant. I just wanted to point out all of the positive growth recently.

I don't know if we will ever get that crazy explosive growth that the triangle has experienced and that is just fine! A lot of our middle schools and high schools do not get great reviews on greatschools. Those from the Northeast may rule out Winston based on that alone.

This is really a great place to live though. I feel like my kids can get an awesome education, we have access to so much, downtown is 5 min away from where I live and it doesn't take more than 15 min to get anywhere (5 min to most of the places I go to).

If it weren't overshadowed by Raleigh and Charlotte, Winston would be considered one of the premier mid sized cities in the southeast.
