My 25 year old daughter is moving to Winston Salem in January to work at the Medical Center. We will be going down in November to check out housing. She would like a townhome, has a dog and would like to be near some type of area with restaurants, bars, and shops. I would like for her to be safe as well. We are looking for recommendations for areas to check out when we come in a month. Appreciate any recommendations!

Do you literally mean "townhome"? There are nice condos, "flats style" on Oakwood Court, very conveniently located to both hospitals, shopping, restaurants, downtown, etc.

By way, where exactly is she working? There are 2 large hospitals, plus Wake Forest Baptist has a significant presence downtown.

Other general neighborhoods to check include downtown (true townhomes are scarce), West End, Ardmore (where the previously mentioned Oakwood Court is located), Buena Vista and Sherwood Forest.

We are looking for recommendations for areas to check out...

Almost anything in/near the 3 destinations shown will suit...
and be close enough to everything else to work well.
I'll suggest sharing with someone for at least the first year.

while looking around, your daughter can stay at The Edge Flats apartment, most medical professionals I knew stayed there before moving out after settling in.

Wake is the one with the NCI designated comprehensive cancer center.
