My wife and I are relocating to NC. She will be working in WS and I'll be in Highpoint. What is a good neighborhood to live in that's close to both cities? We're mid-late 20s and early 30s and looking for a safe suburban neighborhood.
Downtown Winston is a very popular area, but the choices for living options are either condo or apartment. You might also look at a neighborhood called West End which is just off of downtown Winston.
Kenersville is likely your best bet. It's conveniently located in the Triad and gives you easy access to Winston and High Point. It's historically been extremely rural, but in recent decades has become more suburban. It's by no means has many options as the city, but you'll have a decent amount of options for shopping, dining, and recreation.
Kernersville would be a good choice because it offers the typical suburb/exurb "ranch on a half acre with a fenced back yard for Spot" kind of environment but also has a historic little downtown so if you are more of a town kind of person, there are nice neighborhoods within walking distance to shops/services/and an attractive Bicentennial Garden right in the middle of town with some good green space.
We live near Wallburg and love being so close to both W-S and High Point, without having to deal with Business 40/Salem Parkway as you might in Kernersville. There is much more in the way of shopping in K'ville than there is in Wallburg - Wallburg options are very limited. So if you want a "town", Kernersville is your best bet.
I've read many of these posts which are very interesting to us. However, we don't see many about retirees moving to W-S. Anyone have some thoughts? We've been down there years ago and liked it. Thinking about relocating from the northeast.
