I am looking for a good Pediatrician for my children.

I need someone who is more holistic-minded. Meaning before they automatically throw a prescrip at you, they offer alternative, holistic methods first. Also will be open minded about delayed vaccinations.

Such Peds do exist, we have a amazing one in our area in FL. Does that exist in Greenville? Location is not an issue, as we will drive to the right one.

(Actually, we'll be driving no matter what at this point as we live in NC, but will be moving to Greenville this year and might as well get set up with a Ped now as we never really go anyway expect for well checks. We've only been in NC six months, so have not established a Ped here, but figure why bother, might as well get one in Greenville).

thanks
K

Try looking at Parkside Pediatrics in Simpsonville. I take my kids there and I think they're wonderful. My son needed to see a lot of specialists when he was little. Long story, but the short end of it was that a lot of these so-called "specialists" had it in their own minds what was wrong with my child and wouldn't listen to me. Some of them recommended treatment that actually made things worse for my child instead of better. His doctor at Parkside was always very understanding when I had a problem and was willing to work with me when I refused to go along with the specialist's recommendations.

I'm not sure about the whole holistic and delayed vaccination thing... but when it's time for my kids' well checks, they always ask "will we be vaccinating today?", so it may not be a problem there.

We have been very happy With Scott Dobson at Parkside Pediatrics in Simpsonville. We have selectively delayed vaccinations and he was supportive of it.

My children go to Parkside as well. No problem delaying vaccinations. We did go to Christie Pediatrics and I was also very happy with them but had to change over to Parkside because of our insurance. Both are very good.

Dr. Phil Manly is also respectful of parents in the ways you mentioned.

This page from the Parkside Website might be of interest to the OP:

We just had a baby last week and are going to Parkside. They have been wonderful so far. Two of the doctors, Dobson and Anderson are very holistic-friendly. OK with delayed vaccinations and such.

Hmm, I am confused. Ya'll are saying that Parkside is okay with delayed vaccinations, but their statement on their website states otherwise.

It essentially promotes all-for vaccinations. Gives a bit of "scare factor" testimony, then kind of underhandedly says they may allow a delayed vac schedule. But then stays in no uncertain terms if you choose to have a greatly delayed schedule or no Vacs at all, they WILL ask you to leave their practice, and they WILL NOT give you any recommendations as to who to go to.

Now, I get the whole "sign the statement that we offered vacs, you know the risks of declining, covered our butt" legal paperwork. Even my completely-holistic Ped in FL had us do that. But that statement on Parkside website goes over and beyond "covered our butt cuz we told you the risks" stuff.

If you go to Parkside, please tell me in what way have you personally seen a holistic bent in their practice? What alternative medication/method did they offer before giving a prescription. What is their thoughts on the prescribing of antibiotics? What was your conversation like if you choose to delay Vacs?

I just don't want to be chased out of the Ped office because I don't want my child be shot up with four shots at once, nor do I want antibiotics shoved at us for every little issue.
thnks!

I have heard many wonderful things about Parkside Pediatrics. I do not go there though. The only reason is they were not open when I had my first child and I love Dr. Stoeber at Christie Group. I have an almost 6 month old and I also do not like giving kids a ton of shots at a time. I will allow no more than 2 and Dr. Stoeber has had no problem with me refusing the Hepatits vaccine at 2 and 4 month appts. He told me that originally that particular vaccine was for adults and then the school district deceided to require it and then preschools did. My kids do not attend preschool so I opted out for the time being.

My children see Dr. Dobson. They have been given their vaccinations on schedule, so I can't speak for that part of your question. But, as for antibiotics... we have had several incidents where one of my children has been ill and we were told point-blank that antibiotics would not be given because they were probably suffering a viral infection, therefore antibiotics would be useless. (Not that we asked for antibiotics either.) Also, we have been told in the past to come back if the child didn't improve or their condition worsened and they would prescribe antibiotics then (because they didn't want to give it to them unless they really needed it). So they definently don't push antibiotics on you.

I've been with Parkside since they opened. They really are a wonderful practice, in my opinion.
