Several years ago, there were several retail centers proposed in Spartanburg, Greenville, and Pickens counties:

Reidville (Spartanburg County)
New Shopping Plaza at Rt 296 and Rt 101

Simpsonville (Greenville County)
New Shopping Center on W. Georgia Rd, Simpsonville?

Easley (Pickens County)
Shoppes At Easley - RealtyLink: Properties - View

All three centers appeared to have a supermarket component to them.

Has any of these ideas progressed?

There is a strip center that opened a year or two ago near the intersection of W. Georgia Rd & I-385, but it only has 1 (?) tenant, and no apparent grocery store component.

Easley has progressed with the Easley Town Center. The first thing built was a Super Walmart. As far as I know this is the only grocery associated with this center.

The Shoppes at Easley proposed location is not the location of Easley Town Center. It is across 123 (from WalMart) almost right next to Rock Springs. Nothing has happened there so far.

This center was down at Standing Springs Road, not at I-385.

The size of the currently planned structure is over 68,000 square feet. That would be the size of a larger supermarket or a department store.

I heard(and this is just hearsay) that rock springs won't allow any business that sells alcohol to move into that planned area. that would mean no bars restaurants or grocery stores?? Again this is just what I heard

Wow, I hope Rock Springs doesn't have that much power. They do have a liquor store and Applebees pretty close to them and of course SuperWalmart across the street sells beer. So blocking a grocery store would be a bit misguided since that Rock Springs area isn't exactly overflowing with drunks and vagrants with all the free flowing booze surrounding it.

they might because
A: They are the adjacent property
B: the story was that they at some point did own that property
C: they surely have a lot of money

again, rumors are rumors, so take it with a grain of salt

If Rock Springs Baptist Church was against alcohol sales in nearby businesses, Walmart and restaurants at Easley Town Center would not open. Also, members of its congregation support those immediate businesses, Applebee's and Fatz Café. I would have to assume they are tolerable their business neighbors.

As for a possible grocery store on the site, I do not know who, if any, would have interest in locating there. Food Lion and Bi-Lo are not building new stores, though Bi-Lo on Calhoun Memorial Highway can use a replacement. Ingle's built its present store 14 years ago and is adding a pharmacy department, so I do not see it relocating. I do not know if Publix thinks it is ready for a second Easley store, and if that is the desirable location.

I personally would love to have Whole Foods, or at least something like it.
