According to the Greenville News, Walmart is looking at putting one of their Neighborhood Market concept stores near downtown Greenville. Anybody know where they're looking? My guess would be the Church Street site across from Zaxby's but that's just a guess. I personally wouldn't have a problem with one going there especially if it looks like this: http://assets.bizjournals.com/wichit...09*280.jpg?v=1

The ones that I've been in (Dallas area, and Oklahoma City) were pretty much what you would expect from a normal grocery store, as far as products and layout.

I've been in a few in FL, none in my area where I lived, but there were a few in the next county up. None looked like the one in the link, not as nice. It's like a average grocery store. I think they try to get their foot in the market where they can't build a Walmart. They'll try to get their piece of the pie whichever way they can. I remembere d seeing they were going to try and get a piece of the dollar store market as well.

More info: Church Street across from Zaxby's is the site. 90,000 square feet in size for slated store if it happens. Still very preliminary though. Expect to hear more in August. Walmart officials are meeting with city officials and neighborhood associations.

interesting.

if done right this could be a decent kick start to revitalizing the Church Street area. Hopefully having the name Walmart attached wont hurt it badly. Also hoping revitalizing Church Street will venture down Mills Avenue some, i wouldnt mind my property value going up a little

I would rather have an urban Target, as it would provide new retail and also a decent grocery selection. We already have grocery stores downtown.

If it's going to essentially be a grocery store (and Walmart Neighborhood Markets basically are), I would prefer Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, or Fresh Market.

I agree... Whole foods or something of that sort would be nice.

Just drove by the lot on my way home and the sign on the corner is down... I'm sure by coincidence but still. The second one was still up.

Anyone catch a Picture of the rendering they showed on the news?

Yeah, I would rather see Target or Whole Foods also but i'm not going to complain. Beggars can't be choosers. It's a good site for an urban Walmart. You can see the proposed rendering of it on the video here at the 1:20 mark: Small Version Of Retail Giant May Fill Empty Lot - Greenville News Story - WYFF Greenville (http://www.wyff4.com/news/28661224/detail.html - broken link)
