Does any one have ATT U-Verse, and if you do can you stream video on it,I just moved here and I have never been above 0.8MB when ever I have tested it. It is not worth having at that speed. What can I do?
I'd call AT&T to check your lines. I just tested at 21.8 / 2.8 from Speedtest.net.
We have been surprisingly happy. I wanted their TV package, so I got internet with it. I figured that if it was as bad as I thought it would be I'd cancel and get internet from Charter), but ended up with a pretty decent connection. It's not the 25/15 FiOS that we had in FL, but not bad either.
U-Verse is hybrid DSL, so your distance to the node will affect speed, as well as the condition of the copper to (and in) your house.
Used to install and maintain UV a while back. You can very easilly stream video, of course with the right connection speeds. Slow connection speeds could be resullting from 1 problem to a combination of problems. CAT5e cable should be used from the network interface to the modem. Sometimes they use a coax adapter balun to run a VDSL feed through the inside cable lines, which could result in problems if you are also using the TV service. It could also very well be an outside facility problem, such as an older service wire being used, or a VRAD port issue. They are doing pair bonding, which increases the bandwith to bring it further out into the neighborhoods. If your not in the coverage area, it may be in your area eventually.

Are you only paying for their slowest package? They have I think 1.5Mbit, 3Mbit, 6Mbit, 12Mbit, 18Mbit, and 24Mbit right? Make sure you're actually paying for the right speed.
Aside from that Charter has way better internet IMO - I pay for 8mbit and I actually test at 28mbit. I don't have cable anymore, canceled it and just have internet + netflix and an attic antenna for local channels.
Something has to be going on with your line. I almost always test at 12mb with their 12mb package. Just tested 11.46 down and 1.49 up. The slowest they offer is 3mb, so there's something wrong with your line if you're only testing .8mb.
The only other thing I could think of is that you have DSL, and not really U-Verse. DSL is very different, and my old 6mb DSL used to never test at 6mb, it was always lower. U-Verse (VDSL) has consistently tested at the speed I was paying for.
The other benefit is that I think I've only ever had one outage with U-Verse in the 18 months or so I've been with them.
We have 18 MBit service with U-Verse and never get that, we're lucky to get 12. Had their techs out three times, and they've said that they can't do any better since we're as far from the "node" as can be. Not a huge fan, but our only options are between them and Charter, and I've been down the lousy service road with Charter when I lived in Asheville.

I hope you're only paying for 12mb then. I almost never see any change in my speed. Maybe +/- 500kb/s, but that's it.
