Hotel at River's Edge has more to offer than Home 2 Suites by Hilton. If Home 2 has a few more levels to increase room count, it would be able to do more in the North Main Street area.

What's the time frame of these projects? Isn't there something already going on at the site for River's Edge?

Good to see. The 117 room Home2 Suites by Hilton was originally rumored to be a 300 room Holiday Inn. I was not familiar with Hilton's Home2 Suites, but I looked it up and see that it is their version of Aloft. So it's going to be the smaller rooms, modern feel, minimalist furniture, eco-friendly deal. I don't see the broad appeal of this kind of hotel, but maybe that's just because I don't like it myself. I guess they feel there is enough of a market for it, and I hope they are right.

The Hughes design looks great. Good height and in a location that will benefit from development. Any idea as to which brand it will be? Or are we thinking it will be a local hotel?

The 300-room Holiday Inn (with two restaurants) announcement was presumably intended to scare the other developers proposing hotels downtown. I'm not a fan of the Home2 building, especially its minimal interaction with Main Street.

The River's Edge hotel is more impressive than I had imagined.

The hotel boom in downtown continues I see...good stuff.

The facade for the Hughes project is interesting. I wonder what material is being used for the ripply-looking parts of the facade?

Hilton is late to the game with the Home2 concept.....well behind Starwood's Aloft for "cheap coolness", and behind Hyatt Place for "mainstream mod". I stayed in a Home2 in downtown Baltimore. Was not impressed. None of the cool factor to make up for staying in a budget minded hotel......no bar like WXYZ at Aloft.....the snack / sundries store assortment was main stream Frito Lay instead of hip, organic, healthy snacks. The rooms were an attempt at modern, though the lime green they chose is ALREADY dated. Bath products were non brand (unlike Aloft....Bliss or Hyatt....Portico). Maybe Hilton has improved Home2.....my stay there was over a year ago. But, as a Hilton Honors Diamond member, I have not stayed in another Home2 again. Simply was not impressed.

As for Hotel at Rivers Edge....the devil will be in the detail. Who will run this once open? Very experienced hotel management company or locals? Could be a fabulous place.....could also be a huge flop. Greenville hasn't done too well in the "boutique hotel" arena. A challenging business.

This will be the developer/owner of the Hughes hotel: Accente Group, Inc. | Hospitality, Real Estate, Consulting Word on the street is that it will be Indigo. They have a location in Asheville.
