Visiting Travelers Rest area, looking for some nice camping areas on a lake, with modern cabins to rent for a couple of weeks in the summer.
Also, lodging for our visit. We would like something walking distance to shops and dining. Any ideas? It dosen`t have to be Travelers Rest...just nearby. Thanks!

South Carolina has beautiful parks, many on lakes with cabins. Paris Mountain (with a pretty small lake) would be the closest park to Traveler’s Rest but there are numerous in the Upstate on much bigger lakes. https://southcarolinaparks.com/

Those cabins and such book up fast. I wouldn't delay if looking for 2024.

Don't limit yourself to TR. The Upstate has so much to offer!

Yes! That is why I am looking to narrow my search down with ideas from those familiar with the areas.

Table Rock is the state park with cabins closest to Greenville. They are nice. Paris Mountain does not have cabins

Devils Fork State Park has villas on Lake Jocassee. These parks are in rural areas. Jocassee is one of the most scenic lakes in the US.

If you want lodging near restaurants, recommend the historic Westin Hotel or the Bohemian Lodge near Falls Park.

Thanks LakeMan! Exactly the kind of info I have been looking for.

He’s right about Paris Mountain — We’ve never stayed in any of the state park cabins; I had only seen them and didn’t realize they were group lodging. Husband, son, grandson have gone tent camping at several.

Jocassee is truly stunning.

If you are looking to save money, you could camp at the Star Fort Pond in the Ninety Six National Historic Site near Greenwood. I've seen people camping there. The park doesn't have any fees.

https://www.nps.gov/nisi/index.htm

You can take a trail from the pond over to the main park with the fort.

Lake Greenwood State Park nearby is a big camping state park. No cabins though.

There's a cool restaurant on Lake Greenwood, Break On The Lake, near these two parks. https://www.breakonthelakegwd.com/

If you're looking to stay in TR, the Hampton Inn is in a great location and recently remodeled. Also look into the Swamp Rabbit Inn. They have rooms in the main house as well as a small coach house that looks nice.

Both are an easy walk to shops and restaurants along Main St.
