Yes. And last I heard they were no longer allowing you to use your own modem.

Thanks!
Well that's a bummer, so much got my cost saving idea. I was thinking I could buy a charter approved router/modem and save a few bucks.

I have been using my own modem with Charter (bought from Charter, but I own it and pay no rental fee) for years. But it's possible they don't let new customers do this.

Thanks, what about a router? Is there an option to buy your own or is that a add on charge also.

I have Charter internet. I pay $39.99 a month for the service and it is their modem. I connect this to my own router and have no problems. There is no extra charge for either the modem or the use of my own router.

I have Charter now. They do provide you with a modem at no change. They do charge $5 mo for the router if you use theirs. You can buy your own but from my experience, Netgear works with their service.

I recently switched to Charter from AT&T. Like others have said, I did get a free modem from them, and I planed on using the same router I had used. It was a cheap Belkin that I had no problems with on AT&T, but for some reason after I switched I would lose the internet every few hours and I would reset the router and then it would work again for a few more hours.

I don't know a lot about it, but after a little research, I think my ip address was changing and somehow my router was not adjusting until it was reset. So I bought a Western Digital that was a little higher end and I have had no problems in the past few months.

I did the same thing. My Belkin router would not work with Charter. The only router I could get to work with Charter is a Netgear. Charter even told me their routers are Netgear.
