Just curious if there are any neighborhoods in the Greenville area with underground power lines.

Like most places its a mix of below and above ground utilities. I'm not sure if a map is readily available showing what all everything is, but in general if its a newer neighborhood then pretty much guaranteed to be buried, if a few decades older then may be above ground or buried, or buried once it reaches a neighborhood, and the more rural the better odds of above ground. I'm sure others will chime in on actual neighborhoods for you but hopefully that gets in you started in a home search with buried lines.

It just depends on the neighborhood. Most of the newer ones are underground. Unfortunately, you're just going to have do the research.

Are you looking in a specific area?

The city of Greenville will subsidize any homeowner to bury their overhead power lines ("Weather the Storm", up to $1500, and the city works with Duke Energy) - I took advantage of this and it didn't cost anything - realize the street power poles remain and this only applies to the overhead line to your house.

Unfortunately, overhead power lines are everywhere in older Upstate neighborhoods - the city of Greenville is slowly burying lines on major shopping corridors (Augusta and Haywood).

If you're searching in the county, look for a new/newer neighborhood.

Thanks so much to each of you. Great info and what I expected. It's neat that you can bury from your street to the pole at least. I was looking at a pretty wide swath that includes the north, west and southwest areas surrounding Greenville and out to about Wade Hampton. But really mostly focused on homes that are zoned for Wade Hampton HS.

What price range are you looking for as well?

Max would be about $325k but would be happier in the max $250-275k range. And even happier if lower :-)

Looks like plenty in that range and much lower around WH HS according to Zillow.com - great housing resource imo.

A quick search on the MLS turns up 8 newish home in that price range, mostly in Taylors, that feed into Wade Hampton High.

I was going to suggest the Pebble Creek area. There are 2 newer subdivisions on Roberts Rd that have homes starting in the mid 100's.

http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/205-Peaks-Ct-Taylors-SC-29687/80960100_zpid/

There are nice sized homes in there and it's a nice neighborhood. If you'd like more home, there are more subdivisions in Pebble Creek in the $250k-$350K range and up
