We haven't even moved into our house and people are stopping by to introduce themselves, offering help, suggestions about everything from landscapers to churches etc. We were so surprised and caught off-guard because the Washington DC area is very cold and unfriendly. We were in our last house 17 years and barely knew our neighbors. No one said welcome when we got there; no one said goodbye when we left (cul-de-sac of 12 houses)
We are thrilled to become part of this community! We're already planning a Christmas Open House!

I moved here to Spartanburg last November and have noticed people are pretty friendly in general compared to up north . The only gripe I have about people down here is they are not very smart when it comes to driving . I know that's everywhere but they just dont think . Especially around christmas time . I came from Cincinnati OH with a population of around 300k . I was shocked to find out the population here is only around 38k.
Our annexation laws in South Carolina are backward and it makes it very hard for a city to annex people into a city. It seems that annexation is not a top priority here with our city leaders. I think that nine years ago Spartanburg tried to annex on the westside and eastside and people filed lawsuits against the city which caused them to give up the effort to annex.

Thanks to all who have helped so far.
Have you been to The Beacon and Holmes Hot Dogs yet?
They just want you to join their church and add in your 10%!
Having spent my life in the user-Capitol of the world -- Washington DC -- I'm fairly astute about people. I know when they're just trying to sell me something or get something out of me. Trust me, I can spot those phoneys a mile away.
I know this post is a bit old, but I’m glad I found it. We’ll be moving to Wellford/Spartanburg area end of May. Glad to know people are friendly and you are happy you moved to Spartanburg. I keep getting mixed reviews/opinions of Spartanburg. Spartanburg was not on our radar when we started looking but a home came up that we love and when driving around really liked the area.
