I was told that staffing agencies are the way to go here. I need to work on my resume and get it to a couple of them. I've been too busy and it might come back to bite me.
I would agree with the staffing agency comment, depending on your field. You can submit your resume to 30 different companies, or you could submit your resume to 3 different staffing agencies, who will submit it to all of the applicable companies in their database. Obviously the person looking for employment doesn't pay a fee, but rather the company hiring the person.
Staffing agencies are always looking to get their foot in the door with different companies in the area, and if they think you might be a good fit for a certain company (that's not in their database), then they'll use your resume as that foot in the door.
Just my experience from helping folks move to the area.
Is there any one staffing agency that seems to get more/better paying contracts than the others? I've looked at at websites for the ones listed on this forum as well as Google and there are maybe a half dozen jobs at each, averaging around $8-10/hr. Is this normal or a hiring-cycle type phenom? Also, are there any industry-specific hiring agencies? Hubby has an extensive history in security {both civilian and military} as well as automotive manufacturing and other industrial type work. These are the sectors he will be looking to for employment when we first arrive.

I would not rely on the job postings on the agency websites, but I would recommend submitting a resume or application to the employment agency directly. By doing so, the agency will do whatever they need to find you (or your husband) a position, since they won't get paid until they do. It is in their best interests (financially) to actively search to find you a job, especially when they have a strong candidate.

Right. I'm also working on getting copies of our current scores for industrial & clerical from the employment center here to take with us/list on our resumes. Just mostly curious if one agency is more 'popular' with local employers, I guess you could say.
