The right lane of I-385 North from about Simpsonville/Fairview Road to the I-85 interchange is falling apart. I routinely use the left lane to avoid all the pot holes. Does anyone know if this will be re-paved?
Also, why is this busy section of 385 2 lanes only? (north of 85 and south of Simpsonville it's 3 lanes)
I would say that it may have something to do with our tax dollars being spent by the SCDOT on useless projects in other parts of the state - but I know that people in those areas would say otherwise. Regardless, you would think that a good portion of state money (ours at least) would be reserved for maintenance and improvements in the most populous region. When was the last time we have seen routine repaving on our portion of the interstates? Honestly, I cannot recall when it happened - excluding the expansion and beautification of I-385 from I-85 into Downtown Greenville, which was completed a few years ago.
The SCDOT said they ran out of budget money and wants to wait until the can widen 385 and 85 too. There was an article in the Greenville News a while back. The part through Simpsonville was widened by Simpsonville I believe. Thats why it bottlenecks once you get out Simpsonville and gets rough.
Don't worry. It will get paved once we get this: Exclusive: S.C. might get $3.2 billion - Local / Metro - The State (http://www.thestate.com/local/story/661893.html - broken link)

I-85 between Pelham Road and just west of Laurens Road was paved two years ago. Ever since then though, I haven't seen any paving on the interstates in the area. And if you think I-385 in Mauldin is bad, check out I-185 north of I-85.

The federal government. It's part of the economic stimulus plan that is scheduled to pass in February. Yes, it will add to the national deficit but doing nothing and just letting this economic mess continue would be far worse. Something has to be done and it has to be done now. The plan includes infrastructure spending for the democrats and tax cuts for the republicans.

Sounds good to me..
I never noticed a problem with I-385, but then again, I rarely use it past the I-85 interchange. I think the real problem with the road is the funky interchanges and on/off ramps.. The Hwy 418 and Fairview Street ramps are particularly nasty...

How will adding to the deficit, i.e creating even more debt, be better then not adding to the deficit? I'm a really simple, logical guy and this makes no sense whatsoever. If you have $15k in credit card debt, do you max it out at $25k in hopes that it'll go away?

What do you suggest? DOT says they are out of money just like ESC. Should we just leave the roads alone? Not being smart.
