Yesterday was my personal Sig day at the range, took my 522, P239, and SP2022 out for some fresh air and lead slinging at my local indoor range.

While waiting for a lane to become available I was purusing their consignment stuff as they were having a 5% off sale and noticed an Auto Ordnance M1911A1 Army in the case. It looked in good shape and was a nice, no frills model, and was built after Kahr bought them (Worchester, MA stamped on the slide) so those models are supposedly an improvement over pre 1999 stuff.

I gave it as close once over as I could with my limited knowledge of 1911's and decided to plunk down the cash, I mean when better to buy one then the year of the 100th anniversary

They're going to clean it for me and put some rounds through it to make sure it functions ok so I should pick it up later this week. I figure it'll make a good gun to learn the platform, rather than messing up an $800 one.

The below pic is pretty much what it looks like, will have actual pics later in the week.

Welcome to the Dark Side my friend. You have crossed a line whence there is no return.

My TRP and I salute you.

Looks nice. I'm leaning in the direction of the Ruger SR1911, as it's made here in Arizona, and has good reviews. There seems to be a high demand for them, so I'll probably pick one up later in the year (hopefully).

It's actually not so dark once you get here

So I do have a question, as far as replacement parts are they pretty much standard? I mean if a mfg has a 1911A1 true to the original design, it's parts should fit any other?

And where's a good place to get said parts?

Good find. Auto Ordinance 1911's have a pretty good reputation from what I've read/heard. Most all 1911 parts will fit. Several online retailers have everything you might need; MidwayUSA, Numrich Gun Parts; Cylinder and Slide, etc.

Check out the 1911 forums for detailed reviews and info regarding your brand/model.

The M1911 Pistols Organization Forums Site -

They have links to many parts retailers also.

Yes and No.

Be Careful and ensure that the after market parts you are buying are drop in ready for your particular 1911. You can get aftermarket parts for 1911's from companies all over the Internet.

I have a gunsmith with about 40 years experience that is a friend that does all my work for me.

I have sent my Springfield's to the Springfield custom shop as they are one of the best around and it maintains my lifetime guarantee on my pistols.

Here is another 1911 forum other than the ones mentioned above. Truly a never ending wealth of information from those 1911 fanatics. I believe you will find specific info on your 1911 under the section "other 1911's"

Be careful, there is a distinct danger of hoarding behavior in your future.

There are some differences you should note. Not all the barrels that are available will work with all the frames that are available. On my Springfield Target Omega the extractor broke. Springfield doesn't have a replacement part I can buy, so rather than throw the gun away and call it worthless, I bought a 38 Super upper for the frame. A 45 ACP upper would not have fit on that frame. Some models use a 'ramped barrel' and some don't, so look into the differences before you buy after market parts. One other thing that might be interesting to you, Kimber makes a 22 lr conversion upper that works really well on 1911 45 ACP frames. Brownell's is a favorite parts distributor for many shooters.
