Do you ever get your hair curled in a salon? (product, highlights)

The older ladies around here still go get their hair curled at the salon and sit under the drier. Or they have a stylist sit there and curl their hair.
That's all you seen on Thursday or Friday at the salons here in Wichita.
If I need to curl my hair at home I use the curling iron. But I have naturally wavey/curly hair.
My gram had that done till the day she died. The stylist would come to her apt sometimes but they would use a setting lotion, rollers and a bonnet hair dryer. She had a portable one.
I personally just do anything at home but have had my hair done curling iron style via salon girls.

At home I use rags tie up (vintage style), curlers, flat iron (can curl with these too), big jumbo curling iron. On my hair I just use a heat protector. I don't really seem to need any setting lotions. Sometims I define or smooth the ends with mousse, pomade, or conditioner.
I usually only use the flat iron way as it is so fast and easy.
My mom tells me about how when she was younger she used to get her hair set at a salon pretty regularly. Is this something some women still do?

Sure, there are some older ladies that still get their hair 'set'. Those hairstyles last about a week. So those ladies would come in once a week for their set... There are special lotions you use for this and lots of REAL backcombing to hold the style. For girls who get their hair rolled/under dryer it is usually for an event. Like prom or wedding. Usually a different product is used...and no REAL backcombing is done...So these styles last for a day or 2 at most.

No, I only go to the salon if I need a haircut or a trim. And if I really want a drastic different haircolor or highlights (which I haven't done in 3 years).
I curl my own hair. I use rollers (I leave them in for only 20 minutes). I, right now, am using the soft foam type rollers. But thinking of going back to the velcro type. They take less time to put in and less time to curl my hair.
My aunt goes to get her hair done once a week (she's in her late 60s) and said in her generation that's what many women did---had their hair washed and set once a week. It wouldn't work for me,as my hair tends to be oily and I can't imagine only washing it once a week,especially in the hot,humid summer!!! Thank heaven for flat irons and hot rollers (my mom was a big fan of hot rollers too).
My mom and aunt have their hair washed and set every Friday along with a salon full of their friends.
I have gone in a handful of times for a blowout if I have a special event. I have very thick curly hair that is a PITA to straighten at home.
