I looked at a local paper and they had pictures of the girls basketball team and the cheerleaders. What I noticed was that every girl had the same hairstyle. Long hair , possible layer but straight , parted on the side. They all looked like twins. Then I started to think way back to 1978 when I graduated and I remember girls with short hair, long. Usually long bangs parted in the middle. But not everyone had the same hair. Do you think girls now are more inclined to wear their hair just like their friends to not be different more than years ago?

What I don't get about teen girls and their hair now is how many of them have extensions. It's gotten to where I can spot those with extensions a mile away and they are more than norm than those with naturally long hair. As for looking like their friends, when I was in school feathered hair was the style and pretty much all of us had it so I don't think things have changed that much. What's in is what kids usually want. But at least our hair was real.

Extensions are not popular where I live, but the long straight hair certainly is! I hate the way constant straightening makes girl's hair look - can't wait for this trend to pass along!

It seems teen girls are prone to follow the trends of stars or singers they see. Based on that, they all end up looking the same....even though they don't realize it. I look back at my high school pics in the 70's and each one of us dressed the same and wore our hair basically the same.

And we thought we were so 'individual'.

Same here... graduated HS in 1973 and practically all our yearbook photos were identical.

The long flat ironed hair is popular here too. Also the dark on the bottom light on top color. Thats one look I am not a fan of and it never looks good.

Funny - I was just thinking I should try the dark on the bottom to look more modern - and I am an old broad -

I have a daughter (now 20) so I can speak from some experience. It's actually pretty simple, the look today for most girls and women it seems is to have the long straight hair. Hair straighteners have really taken off. My daughter and I both use them. I had pretty long hair over the summer, got it cut off and it's grown a lot again and I do the same thing, parted to the side, long and straight. My daughter does the same thing. I personally like the look for me because it is shiny, healthy looking and silky soft so it looks and feels good. My daughter says the same thing. I think it's just "in" because of hair straighteners and it's a complimentary look on most females young or old.
