Where is the best place to watch fireworks on the 4th in Virginia Beach? Also, where do you suggest for beach tent camping in the Hampton Roads area? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

You can camp sound side in Hatteras or Mountain side in the Blue Ridge. Either trip is about the same distance from VB.

These are not places in VB but for future reference. Happy 4th!!

Va Bch will have two firework shows, one at the ocean front and one at mount Trashmore...Which one is the best is a personal choice but I prefer the show at mount trashmore because the oceanfront breeze seems to kill or shorten each blast at the show along the strip.

As far as "beach" camping you cannot camp on the "sand" if that is what you mean and can only camp in a campground...The local campgrounds at the beach I am sure are booked solid for this holiday weekend but even if there are a few sites still available expect to pay a high price even for a tent spot and expect a 4 night minimum....your closest campground to the oceanfront strip is the Trav-L Park campground on General Booth Blvd.

People camp on the beach here, but it's not on the ocean. Still it's very nice.

I agree about the Trashmore fireworks being best. We usually park in the neighborhood off South Plaza Trail, and walk to the back of the park to watch. Be warned a lot of people do this, so get there at least an hour or two early. You'll never be able to get in on the front side unless you spend all day there or get lucky. Some folks also watch from the Timberlake/Animal Jungle parking lots.

They are both about 4 hrs away from VB but well worth the trip.

The best place to camp on the beach would have to be the Outer Banks area like Emeraldgirl said. It is about 3 hours south of VA beach in North Carolina. You can drive and camp on the beach. Plenty of beach stores and lots to do. That is by far the best place on the east coast to vacation.

There is an awesome place called "Duck." Take 12 off of 168. A little peninsula on the ocean is very jimmy buffet-y. Great food and shops, lots of kayak and canoe as well as jet ski's to rent and even motor boats.
