Hi all,

I've been curious as to how Hampton Roads' citizens view their representation in the state in relation to the rest of the state. I know this is a controversial issue in Northern Virginia, and I'm wondering because the Washington Post frequently mentions Hampton Roads in the same issues that Northern Virginians are frustrated about, namely taxes (for everything) and transportation since Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads contain the biggest trading assets (Dulles and HR Port). Are Hampton Roads' citizens as frustrated as Northern Virginians, or do they not view the rest of Virginia as angrily or with a belief that they are being treated unfairly in relation to other localities in the state, especially by having the second largest population in the state?

I'm not trying to fan the flames of sectionalism or anything, I'm just genuinely curious because I feel like I haven't heard a lot about this topic in Hampton Roads.

Yeah we're definately screwed for transportation dollars, that's for sure.

I feel like we're screwed by Northern Virginia in everything. How many metrorail lines do you need? You suck up all the $$$ until we have 10 mile backups at our bridges and tunnels. Thanks. Haha, I know it's not your fault.

A friend pointed out that Richmond and Northern Virginia have lots of prominent families. Hampton Roads has little to none.

Alot of it has to do with the fact of being closer to Washington DC. Always has.

One or two more should do it, but we definately need about a billion dollars of LR extension. But wait?We have to help your ailing metro that is rickety and likes to have bad accidents though. Aww man.

Then I'd suggest you lobby the federal government for money and set up special tax districts as Northern Virginia has done to pay for our transportation needs.
