Because of the bubble town home rents are just a little above apartment prices. If you're looking into Greenbrier/ Great Bridge town homes are the way to go. There's only one complex kind of in GB that's newer, the others are at least 20 years old and rent is high.

I do have kind of bad news, my husband and I just found out that the townhome we wanted to rent actually was still on the market to be sold and has been on the market for months. Now all of a sudden someone wants to buy the townhome. That's the only downfall to renting a townhome/condo/home, the competition. If someone decides at the last minute to buy before you get the lease signed, they get first consideration. So the real estate guy told us that they're waiting on the sales contract. If it's approved and is processed, then we lost out on a townhome. If it isn't, than we get to rent the townhome.
Argh. We are so close. I will keep everyone updated with info. Prayingfully we can get this townhome. I love the Great Bridge area and a townhome would be perfect... <3 *sigh*

In the Great Bridge/Greenbrier area there are a few nice places.

Riverwalk is an older townhouse/condo complex built in the late '80's..Google it.

There's also Oak Grove Apts, Ivystone and Willow Oaks. Rents run btwn $850-1300 depending on what youre looking for.

Ginger_beauty, I hope everything works out in your favor. You said that if they don't buy then you will get to lease, is there a rule that prevents the lease being broken if the owner decides to sell later on? I haven't researched this yet.

I too worry about this, particularly when I look at rentals that are also listed for sale. I bought my house while a tenant was living in it but they were already planning to move so I only had to wait 60 days and no rent was paid to me because that's how long the process ended up taking. So, from my view of it, there was no real awkwardness or I wasn't aware of it. Even if the homeowner gave me enough notice, I wouldn't want to have to move before I am ready but it is definitely the chance one takes.

You also have the option to purchase the townhome if it doesn't sell while you are renting. I snagged the one I sold in 2005 when the people I was renting from ended up getting divorced. The house was only 1 year old, I lived in it for a year before they offered it, paid for everything. 20 years later....well, you all know the story!

I always see brand new complexes popping up everywhere in hampton roads all the time. There's no way these places can be crummy already. Look up apt complexes that have been built since like 2007 and you should have more luck of finding one that lives up to your standards.

my complex is baywatch point it's very quiet here .no jet noise and close to every thing .most of the people who live here are military .rent is 870 for 2bedroom town homes .you can go to rent.com and check it out
