The commute, along I 83, can be slow in the mornings and evenings. There are back roads however and it isn't terrible (maybe an extra 5 or so minutes). Lot's of good schools on the west shore such as
mechanicsburg sd which I am partial to. I'm honestly not sure if you will find a place to live for the amount you cite or not. I want to say yes, but really not sure

Mechanicsburg has good schools, nice parks, a very nice public swimming pool etc. I would live in town but the surrounding areas (just a couple of blocks away) are very nice. The town is nice as well, just not my cup of tea.

How did someone from the Netherlands find a job in Central PA? We only have the Pennsylvania Dutch here. I did find a copy of
Dutch, The Magazine at a local bookstore recently. I may learn Dutch because I'm interested in moving to the Netherlands. I don't like the health care system in the United States. Health care has become politicized and conservative idiots are cheering when they hear about people dying from lack of affordable health care.
By the way, Harrisburg is going to declare bankruptcy. Don't move there. Eventually their creditors will have the power to demand tax increases.

We are moving from the Netherlands, but we are not Dutch. Wij spreken Nederlands, natuurlijk.
I like it here in the Netherlands, but is is also far from perfect (including the health care system). We are expats here too, and were before coming here, so we have basically mastered the art of adjusting.
Good luck on your relocation to the Netherlands. It is a tidy, organized and, believe me, surprisingly conservative little country.
