How is the atmosphere and crime near at the Harrisburg mall? Is it safe to venture out on a weekend night to watch a movie there and shop or no?

The one with Bass Pro? I've never gone their at night, but with all the sportsmen in the area visiting Bass Pro, I wouldn't be too terribly concerned.

It was always my preference not to go there at night. Once you're inside it's probably OK, but I never trusted the parking lots, especially as a female walking alone. No way!

The surrounding area has always been something of a hoodrat wonderland and the mall itself has been going downhill for the better part of 20 years. I'd limit your exposure to daylight hours.

They actually changed the name of the mall a while back because the "East Mall" (which it used to be) had such a bad reputation after several women were raped in the parking lot. I used to work there way back, and the mall cops would walk us out at night. Also worth mentioning that it's right next to Dauphin County Prison, so there are plenty of questionable folk around there visiting or being released.

I would park in the front parking lot (i.e. the one facing Paxton Street and I-83); I think that lot tends to be better lit and has more foot traffic.

Back in the day the East Mall was decent, but there was a shooting there once, I forget when, 1980's I believe near the Arcade.

Last I heard was a car jacking, but that was in the early 2000's, after I left PA.

Of all the malls in the Harrisburg Area, I preferred the Colonial Park Mall the best, but that was back when malls were a big deal.

I am sure none of the malls are the same anymore, Camp Hill, Capital City to mention the other two.

Times have changed.

Camp Hill mall has been turned into a strip with one small interior hallway. I'm not sure which of the 3 remaining would be considered the "best".
