Looks like the east side of the Big Island will be a bit rainy again tonight...

"Total up the rainfall since Christmas Day and you get 22 inches at the Hilo airport and 15 inches in Pahoa. Contrast that to 1.7 inches at Waimea and zero precipitation at Keahole International Airport in that same period."

Any one else think the weather has any connection to the drop in fireworks permit sales for this year?

Nope, not the weather since it was beautiful and sunny back when folks would have gone to get permits. I think the dismal economy is what's keeping folks from blowing up money.

Our neighbors are going to tape the glittery ball falling on Times Square and we will watch it tomorrow afternoon at a barbecue for our "Hawaiian Time" new years. Gives us an excuse to not have to stay up.

sorry to be a party pooper. but, i'm glad the rain is here. the fireworks on o'ahu started around halloween--the big bomb kinds. can't say i miss it any. here, in fern forest on the big island, there were a few pops and that was it. quite surprising when yesterday it didn't start raining here until about 330pm. however, as the night progressed, lots of thunder and lighting. had to sleep on the couch again with those big chicken dogs of mine.

the VOG started rolling in about an hour ago and now it's raining.

Some of the nicest holiday music I own is from Hawaii. It's a wonderful break from the 900 versions of the same old English Carols I've heard for way too many years.
