the cancer surgery was on 7/27 which was after my new plan started on 5/1. i paid the deductible before having the surgery. i had one petscan on 10/12 the next would be around 1/12/13 or so. so would i have to pay the new deductible on 1/1/13 and then again on 5/1/13 if the plan renews?

i already put in a question to my insurance co so they will answer me eventually but you can respond if you like

It depends on what the "fiscal" year of your plan is. If your plan year starts May 1st, no, you will not have to pay another deductible until May 1, 2013. If your plan year starts Jan 1st, yes, you will have to pay a new deductible. This should be an easy question for them to answer so I would call them back and sit on hold until you can talk to someone. Put the phone on speaker phone and do dishes or something if it is a long wait .

Our plan, for example, has a plan year of Dec 1-Nov 30, however, our deductible year runs Jan 1-Dec 31--why, I don't know, it's just weird. So, for us, if we meet a deductible in say, Feb, we don't pay again until Jan 1.

Last year my husband was covered under one plan, then his company changed to another plan mid year, they DID IN FACT roll the deductible anyone had met over to the new plan so that you did not have to meet it over again, but the company worked the contract that way so the employees would not have to meet it again.

Now this year they dropped that plan and the deductible has gone from 250 pp to 1250 pp, and out of pocket maximum from 1250 to 5000. and that does not include the drug portion of my plan, the Co pays have gone up a lot on the drugs we need, and the out of pocket max for drugs only is 6350.

Check with HR on the policy coverage period and that will tell you. The one year deductible runs thru those dates.
