I no longer have my job in which I was getting health benefits. The benefits stopped on 6/30/13. In the meantime, an issue re-arose from the first time I had it 3 yrs ago, in which thankfully a simple prescription cleared it up. I DESPERATELY need to get a refill on that prescription now!
Knowing my dr, he's going to request that since the issue was so long ago (3 yrs), I need to come in to see him, but I have no insurance anymore.
If he'd only give me a refill, I'm willing to pay the cost of the prescription, whatever it is.
Well, I guess my dr forgot to call me on Fri. I don't know how much a regular office visit with no insurnace will cost. He's not with a big company like Kaiser Permanente, etc. He's one doctor in his own little office.

For a visit, you can try to negotiate a better rate for the visit. Ask "What kind of discount for uninsured patient if I pay full amt of bill at time of service?". Then wait for an answer.
They might say "We normally charge $110 but can give you 30% off".
My dr charges $80 for office visits for uninsured patients. I'm trying to see if he can give me a refill for something I had 3 yrs ago WITHOUT me having to go in & see him again (to hopefully eliminate the $80 office visit fee). Then, I'll just havet see how much the prescription is without insurance...hopefully no more than $50 IF I can even get it.
