Didn’t know how to properly word my topic. Mom is in assisted living but fell. She’s been in hospital and will go to rehab. If she can’t function enough to go back to her room at assisted living she’ll have to go to a skilled nursing facility. The cost, $9000 Month will deplete her sVings in a year. One of the nearby nursing homes will accept Medicaid IF she first comes in as private pay for 6 months. No problem. EXCEPT, upon reading about the look back of 5 years we’re in trouble. Mom has given me money each month for past 4 years for my health insurance. She started this the month my dad died and I moved her to be near me and into the AL. I take her to dr appts, shopping, out to eat, etc and family members agree that if I quit my job then it was fair for her to give me this monthly amount.

Is this payment allowed? Thank you

And before you suggest an elder attorney I called and made appt but it’s not for several weeks and I really want to figure this out

The burden will be on her to prove that the money given you was not done to pay down her assets.

The attorney is a good idea.

Only an elder law attorney can answer your question. Medicaid eligibility is complex.

Been there done that for my Mom.

Be prepared to document everything.
