Vaginal Gel Cuts HIV Spread: AIDS Researchers - ABC News

Interesting read. I don't necessarily agree with such a gel concept, but I understand the need for it. However this article says one thing that bothers me.

The hell?

Can someone help me understand why a woman would not have the "social power" to insist on condom usage? It's their body, isn't it?

And before someone comes with the "could get raped" argument, I would submit that if a woman is being raped, an STD is the least of their problems.

A lot of women tout independence and strength of will. So should we not expect that a woman in a relationship, committed or not, who chooses to have sexual relations, should by default have the authority to demand that the guy wrap it up?

Every woman should set the requirements before hand of what is acceptable for her. Hopefully she communicates her requirements a little in advance.

If they would add a little Elmer's Glue to that Gel with instructions to use 2 hours before anticipated sex, that would go a long way to preventing many problems.

They are referring to women in 3rd World countries, where women have little to no social status.
