As far as I can remember, I have always had sleeping problems. About a year ago, I started taking sleeping pills nightly to help fall asleep. So far it has worked well. But is using them every night, for more than a year, really bad for you?
I have been using Ambien (Zolipdem) for a little bit over a year. I don't know which specific drug you are using, but from my experience, no, it is not ideal. Using pills nightly for extended periods of time creates a physical dependency that can in turn cause rebound insomnia when you are deprived of your pills. This is even worse than normal insomnia. And pills are easily lost. It doesn't take a doctor's refusal (or delay) to refill a prescription, or simply misplacing them - they are also a popular target for thieves, who either use them to get high or sell them to other people. It can't be denied, too, that Ambien makes you feel very good - which can be an incentive to personal addiction, especially when the rest of your days are marked by depression or pessimism.
