A couple of nights ago I was out fishing on a rocky shoreline, and to make a long story short I lost my balance and fell forward onto my hands and knees, then rolled downhill into the water. During the fall I had one of those "bullet time perception" moments where everything happened in slow motion and I was actually able to have several complete thoughts over the span of what couldn't have been more than a couple of seconds. Mostly having to do with the fact that my smartphone was still in my pocket.
Banged my left knee up pretty good. The odd thing was it didn't start hurting until about an hour later. I could tell it was going to be bad because my knee felt very hot, but I was able to get out of the water, climb about 20 feet up the rock pile, walk across about an acre of field and change out of my wet clothes without any pain.
The drive home was about an hour, and I could feel my knee starting to stiffen up. I was limping by the time I got home, and when I went to bed several hours later I could barely bend or put any weight on it without being in absolute agony. The pain has started to subside, but I was wondering why it took so long for me to feel it? Adrenalin from the fall? Some other physiological reaction?
Oddly enough, the phone came out of it in better shape than I did. It's working fine after spending the night in a baggie with a bunch of silica gel packs.
