I have a lot of older friends and I'm getting older too. And most tell me about the incontinence issue and a friend just told me about her neighbor and a doctor putting her on a drug due to this issue. The side effects to this drug are long. Had she been doing Kegel work, the drug may not be in the picture. I have another friend who is 10 yrs older than me and she's up and down all night going to the bathroom. And even during the day. SO.....one can't start this Kegel work too soon..

I'm doing it now as I type this.

PS: Depends are a big industry, I don't want to support that industry.

Wouldn't sit ups accomplish same thing?

I don't think so, but I don't know.

Kegel exercises can help with control for some but not all women.

Those with severe prolapse issues will require surgery.

Those with an overactive bladder muscle may benefit from medication.

Many women have both problems.

There are other ways to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. Riding a bicycle or using a leg press machine both strengthen those muscles. I've noticed that among my friends who've had a couple of babies, those of us who ride a bike regularly don't need to cross our legs when we sneeze or laugh.

You can buy weighted balls that help with kegels, if doing the exercise by itself doesn't feel like it's doing anything.

We went to one of those trampoline places and my GF told me to wear a pantyliner. I was all .

She said sometimes you would pee a little. And I'm like

OMG. You DO.

LOL. Yes, you do. I use those leg press machines multiple times a week, but they don't help me much. I don't bike, though. That sounds like a good suggestion.

Anyway, I just did some Kegels and will do another "set" later today. We'll see if I'm keeping it up longer than a few days....

It's so easy and can only help us down the road. Every muscle weakens with age if we don't use them.

I understand the need for Kegel's (women who practice those while intimate with husbands, have happy husbands), how does the exercise help? I don't do a lot of leg because my cardio does enough, I do a LOT of abs and core though. Is that good?
