I would to like to fast one day a week. I just did it yesterday with a juice fast. I really liked it. Didn't feel hungry at all or get any headaches. So I didn't eat anything from Saturday 7PM until today, Monday at 4AM. I had a few bites of soup and couldn't eat anymore because my stomach started hurting. I'm having a few bites of apple instead, which is better. I think the internet says to break out of a fast, start with a glass of fruit juice and then have some fruit. But if I wake up early on Monday mornings where I need to eat something more substantial because I have to go workout at the gym.. would it still count as a fast if let's say, I had stopped eating at Saturday 7PM and instead of fasting the entire day on Sunday, I had a light meal (soup/salad) on Sunday 7PM? I feel like this would be a lot easier on my stomach, especially transitioning to the next day.

Are you talking about Intermittent Fasting? I have incorporated this into my new healthy life style and love it. I do the 16-8 fast three times a week. Watch Dr. Jason Fung on you tube, he has great information.
This is from one of his interviews:

"How do I break a fast?
Gently. The longer the fast, the more gentle you must be. For short duration fasts, eating too large a meal after fasting (a mistake that we have ALL done, myself included) will usually give you a stomach ache. While this is not serious, people learn quickly to eat as normally as possible after a fast."

Seems to be not so much what you eat after, but how much you eat.

No, not IF. I mean a fast that lasts an entire day.. not one where you just skip breakfast. I wanted to let my stomach not process solids for an entire day once a week.

I'll do 1-2 day fasts now and then. I just drink black coffee and water. I just eat my regular eggs/protein/veggies breakfast the next day.

For me, if I followed a fast with fruit juice, my body would speed up into overdrive, I can't handle that much sugar on a regular day, but definitely not after fasting.

GS, I get best results when I have 0 calories during a fast. When you drink juice, you'r technically not fasting, because your body is not inhibiting MTOR.

If your body is receiving food, it's not going to go through the trouble of breaking your body down to get nutrients.

Also, in regards to breaking fasts, I'm not the best person to ask, but I usually break it with a blended drink, and later on eat regular meals, including protein like eggs, etc.

It is a way of overall calorie reduction. I have done it accidentally a few times and felt great. I seem to have more trouble doing it on purpose. I'd love to do a three or four day fast to reset my system but it may take awhile to work up to it.

There has been much research in the biblical practice of fasting and in many cases the Doctors studying this practice were shocked to discover the body's reaction was much different than expected.

There is a documentary on fasting on either Amazon or Netflix, I don't remember which, but it was pretty interesting and I'd recommend watching it if you're curious. The documentary focussed on Doctor administered long termfasting...7-21 days or more, but that led me to discover the more mild forms of fasting that do not require a Doctors overwatch.

I just looked it up, it's called: The Science of Fasting andis on Amazon, netflix and YouTube.
