So my mother gets a new blood sugar monitor to keep track of my step father's sugar...(he only has half a pancreas)...she insists that we all check ours just to see what it is. My husband's was 164 BUT he had just eaten a Swiss Roll in the past 30 minutes and he takes niacin (which I read can raise your sugar)....she was going on and on about how that was way to high....huh? I am reading that 70-150 is normal....so is 164 really all that high right after a Little Debbie indulgance?

On another note, mine was only 54....but I had only had eggs and cheese and coffee that day. No carbs hardly....so was that too low or just because I had no carbs?

Thanks for any input!

Hmm..

I know for my parents, who are type II diabetics - "normal" - immediately after eating is below about 190. Saw something on Wiki that the ADA (american diabetic association) recommends post meal glucose of less than 180.

Your numbers seem pretty normal, so I wouldn't be worried. If of course they do worry you - talk to your doctor...

What is normal for a diabetic is not "normal" for someone without diabetes.

A normal Fasting Blood sugar is 70-100 ( really less than 100, once you get to 100 you are getting into the pre-diabetes stage)

Non Fasting Blood sugar should be below 145.

To the OP, if you or your husband are concerned you should get a fasting blood sugar drawn by your physician
