Just curious...I know it's a small percentage, but has anyone had to deal with any infection in a knee replacement, years after the surgery? I know it's always a risk right after surgery, but what about several years later?

I have had both knees replaced and can tell you that for the rest of your life you will have to be on guard against all types of infections, flu's & colds lest the bacteria/virus settle in the knee joint tissue matrix.

Even the simplest cut or scratch must be treated as a major wound since it now is for those with joint implants.

The good from the bad.

If you don't have the knee replacement could you end up in a wheelchair?

Something to think about.

Yes, It can put you in a chair which I know all to well. That said, unless one has joint problems it's unfair to comment like this. Only those who have traveled this road know the pain and the life changes it brings.

I have been in a wheelchair going on 2 years now and also work in health care.

That's what makes me feel qualified to advise people in this particular situation Tightwad.
