I know that the Marshals are about catching fugitives and they can travel the out of the country and all, but I sometimes wonder is the U.S. Marshals are over the FBI.
IMHO ~~ I highly respect this group of Marshalls, but I feel they do the dirty work/clean up that other agencies either won't do or do not have the funding to do.
No, they are two different agencies with two different missions created 100 years apart.
The FBI was created in 1909 as the US Department of Justice, Division of Investigation and was renamed to the FBI in 1934.
The US Marshal's Service was created in 1789 as the enforcement arm of the federal court system. They also handled things like the census and tax collection in the early years until they were passed on to other agencies. US Deputy Marshals also handle federal courtroom/courthouse security and transportation of federal inmates to and from federal prisons and detention centers.
There are over a 100 other federal law enforcement agencies as well. The federal government has LEOs for every possible function lol, from Capitol Police to Fisheries officers to Park Rangers.
