Stand Watie was Chief of the Southern Cherokees and also a Confederate Brig General,
the last Confederate general in the field to surrender.

The Southern Cherokees under Chief Watie had their own division of the Knights of the Golden Circle.
The Cherokee KGC constitution and bylaws are now kept at a university in Oklahoma.

interesting, my grandma and her sisters told me that they were descended from a Cherokee chief. their last names were Kilgore, Craven, and there was a Crouch somewhere. Ross was a man of integrity, whether I am related or not;-)
