Do some Germans dislike the French? Why?

What about the Irish?

Anyone know the old history/facts about this?

Having been to Germany several times and having some close friends there, I can affirmatively say that, no the average German person doesn't "hate" the French. Anymore than the average American "hates" Canadians.

I assume when you mention Irish you are asking if Germans "hate" them? Again, the answer is no.

Near duplicate post. I can't see what can be added to this subject that isn't on the below recent thread:

"Do some Germans dislike the French? Why?"

Nearly everyone dislikes the French!!!!

It is the one place of universal international agreement.

If you mean that Germany and France haven't had the most harmonious of relationships as neighboring states, I guess you'd have a point. But that's probably more a case of the respective governments at various times in history not getting along very well with each other, as opposed to the citizens of each state "hating" each other.

My general observation is that even the French hate the French.

An ad I saw in the newspaper's classifieds the other day, under "Guns for Sale"---

"WWII vintage French rifle for sale; excellent condition! Never fired, dropped once."
