Today, I turned my scuba equipment in for some annual checks and one of my dive bosses asked me what was next, scuba wise. I rather just shrugged my shoulders and said that will be when we are back in session.
But as I was thinking where to put my scuba gear (the stuff not out for checks) as I work on the house this weekend, it hit me, what an interesting condition. If one came across my gear, they might think I was a very active diver, going diving at this lake or that every weekend.
I am a very active diver but only professionally. When we are in session, I am wet, in gear 2-4, sometimes even 5, times a week. If I am not doing it for what I get paid for, then I am doing other things.
So there's the question: if we do professionally for what others do recreationally, be it scuba or otherwise, do we do it "less"?
Doing something professionally, usually means you're more efficient, more clinical in your approach. As a professional you likely have tested equipment, you may have more money invested in gear and tools.
Time water or in the field might vary. It also depends on what your assignment and location.
If it's a hobby, how serious is the hobby. Is a frequent occurrence or one day a week or couple times a month?
