Any one here know anything about DJing? I want to get into it, but I don't know what equipment I need or how much it would cost. The only cheap equipment I can find is stuff that is not being used anymore. If I can get the equipment I think I could figure out how it all works.
Man,i havent done it in years, alot has changed.
What kind of events and crowds you will cater to is going to be important.
Are you going to beatmix? They sell complete set-ups in different price ranges.
What kind of Music collection do you have?
I'd like to start small, like college parties, maybe birthday parties. I want to mix and scratch, and I have mostly hip-hop music because thats whats popular here.
You could buy a complete set-up,turntables or cd players.
I have no idea how easy it is to get vinyl anymore.
Of course CD players that match BPM and "scratch" as well have been around..
A long time.I used to have a inexpensive set-up Gemini Turntables,Mixer,etc
Theres Videos that teach the basics of mixing & scratching, etc
All my music are itunes files. So if I saved enough money and bought this CDX VINYL-CONTROLLED CD TURNTABLE (http://www.numark.com/cdx - broken link) would I need to but anything else?
Probably an Amp & Speakers, with that CDX i dont think you would need a mixer.
I would like to play around with that CDX myself, interesting features.
It has a mic input as well.
You may have a problem then. A friend purchased a small DJ/PA system to play music during outdoor parties/BBQ's (he's a competitive cooker). When he played music from his iPod through the system it sounded horrible but CD's sounded great. All of his iTunes music was heavily compressed and playback on a decent system revealed the compression artifacts.
People have had been in a similar situation when they buy a nice HDTV and find out that standard definition programming looks terrible. I say it is like getting a pair of glasses and finding out you have been married to an ugly woman for years.
MP3's are the most common format, but are a very lossy and compressed format. I much prefer FLAC,OGG and similar filetypes to have lossless music. Itunes really is a piece of crap IMO
