Just bought a condo. Kitchen is huge, but all white. Cabinets, floors, appliances. On a top floor with a skylight, potlight, fluorescent lights and a chandelier over an area for a table. My husband says it looks like a hospital room.

Any idea for colour. Thinking of changing the floor to laminate, countertops to laminate and paint the walls possibly a light creamy butter colour. I would like a backsplash too.

Shoud I go dark with the floor and countertop - or light??

Can you post a picture? It helps to know if the cabinets are modern or traditional.

What type of feeling do you want to have? Light and airy, country, traditional?

I think black countertops look nice with white cabinets, but a stark contrast can also have a utilitarian feel.

What are your favorite colors? You want a light creamy butter color on the walls, but do you want a yellow backsplash?

A good clue would be the rest of your house. What colors do you have in the other rooms? What's your style of furniture?

With all white, you have so many choices. I'd go with a light color----blue, green, etc to give it a bright cheerful look.

Here's an example:

Default Hmmmmmm

Have only been there 3 times. Don't get the keys til January.

All the walls in the place are white. Mocha wall-to-wall carpeting throughout. Going to do a feature wall around the fireplace, probably a light tan colour to break up the stark white walls.

Mocha would not have been my carpet choice, but it was put in after the previous owner moved. She went into a home and the kids fixed it up to sell. Too new/good to pull up.

Not sure about the cabinets other than they are white with brass knobs and a groove cutout feature (sorry not descriptive enough I guess) They are not flat.

I would love a kitchen with blue. Our sofa and chairs are blue. Even the bedspread in the Master is blue/mauve/purple.

Love the blue backsplash. Might like a darker countertop. What about the floor??

I like slate floors. If you do a blue kitchen, you'll want a slate that has blue tones. You'll need to adjust the shade of blue on your backsplash:

Otherwise, go with a light colored wood laminant.

I like the white/grey marble countertops with blue. You can get something similar in laminant.

Or you could make your backsplash less of a vocal point and go with a vivid blue counter:
