Our current home has some wonderful plantation shutters that the previous owner bought. There is no paperwork on them. We are moving and I will put shutters in our new home.
Is there any way to figure out who manufactured the ones I have? I don't see any obvious markings on them but maybe someone here knows more about shutters than I do and can suggest what to look for?
I would buy these again for the new home if I could.
Just trying to think what I might do in this situation: How long have you lived there? Is it possible to locate the previous owners and ask them? Or, maybe a neighbor was friendly with them and might know (or was nosy and saw the installer's truck there haha)? Maybe call some of the area smaller, specialty stores and ask if they keep records? (That wouldn't work with the big box stores, though.) That's how we found matching paint for our house. Both the bedroom and bathroom were similar, but different, Sherwin Williams greens and we had a partial can of one of them but not the other. SW was able to tell us what the other green was because they keep records like that.
I don't know what makes them unique or special, but I do know not all shutters are equal. If you can't get any info from the previous owner, why not have a shutter specialist come out to look at them? In other words, a shutter shop, not a Home Depot or Blinds To Go type place.
I know that the previous owner moved out of state. There may be a neighbor who has been here long enough to ask, I can try that.
Avalon is correct. I have been in homes with inferior shutters and you can tell. With the Florida sun and wet, if you go cheap they fade or warp or both. These are very good quality. I'm fairly sure they are mdf, which holds up well to heat and humidity here. But beyond that ??? This house is going on 12 years old so who knows if the original installer even exists anymore.
