People used to come here with questions of how to lay out rooms, what items to buy, etc. Then we would do drawings and photos of room layouts and house exterior suggestions. Just pondering what happened to those questions. Is there some other forum people are using like Houzz, or some software that is easy and accessible for the average user. What do you think?

HGTV made everybody a decorator- well, at least in their mind- so, who needs to ask questions???*

I miss those queries too. We get far fewer of these than we used to.

I enjoyed reading everyone’s different opinions. And I enjoyed thinking about the different room setups mysekf.

It’s different now. People ask what color to paint or what counter or backsplash now. Used to be more helping lay out the design of the room.

Maybe HGTV has laid out such a predictable answer that everyone is following it with whatever budget they have.

I think lots of people now just blindly follow every new trend, and they don't think much about customizing rooms to their own taste, but to taste of the masses, or to the taste of future owners.
Because so often people buy houses with the thoughts to resell them soon, they don't care about making them homey - they want them showy...
It has to look like on interior design magazines and has to wow their friends. That's why so many questions about how to remodel for resale, and what's trendy.
Nowadays lots of homes doesn't have character and all seem to look alike.

I think you’re both right.

I think most people go to HOUZZ for that. I don’t really remember anyone using this forum for that but I probably wasn’t around here then.

I mostly remember a lot of posters gave advice, and then the OPs never got back to tell us if they followed any of it.

I guess it’s kind of like when you ask your husband which sofa he likes, but you don’t really want to know. You just want to know if he agrees with your decision.
