Brought them back from Portugal. High quality glass. When I bought them, I figured I would hang on a wall. But as beautiful as they are, when placed against a wall, the wall paint shows through and ruins the effect.

I was thinking of hanging them inside a skylight "box" from the metal work shown in picture. This house is in Mexico and we have a lot of outrageous and funky art throughout it. BUT, if I hang them (they actually have a skinny little wire loop at their mouth), I am worried they will--

Be too far away (ceiling is 14 feet) to see (the largest is 8" the others are 6".
Spin....I was thinking fishline for strength, but wondering if they will hang straight. They aren't very heavy as the glass is thin.

Here are pics and curious what you think of how to display.

I wonder if mounting them in a lucite shadowbox depth frame with glass on both sides (instead of the usual mat backing on one side) might help. Some light would be able to get behind the frame and show their transparency, there would be a little separation/distance from the wall paint, but you could still use a wall to display them? Maybe ask an art frame shop or a gallery for ideas?

I would incorporate them into/under a chandelier. The light would shine through and be quite interesting.

Good thinking. Alas, no chandeliers...ceiling fans in every room (with light fixtures), can't justify removing any...we have no a/c here, fans are our cooling system.

I also like the glass box idea but thinking it would have to be pretty long and still, the painted wall behind them.

If I wanted to, I could display on a table and get an ironworker (very common and cheap here) to make me a simple black iron frame and suspend from it. Something like those old wooden dowel pasta dryers (sorry best comp I can think of).

Maybe you could have the iron worker fashion something like an upside down U with a bottom out of iron and hang the fish inside that arch and hang that by a window.
The iron would give it a bit more of a presence or oomph and the window glass would allow the beauty of the glass to shine through.
Think like a stained glass piece that is an inset for a window but not the actual window.

You can hang them from the ceiling on as long of a cord as you want, of course.

If on the wall, what about in a shadowbox with a mirrored backing? (or just against a mirrored backing.) That way the wall color wouldn't come through, but light would also reflect back through them.

I love Mexican architecture - love your house. I think your iron pasta hanger idea is really good. Get a real fish lure swivel to clip to the wire loop and they should hang straight and they would even spin a little with air and reflect the light. I guess you would just want to be sure they didn't swing too hard, if you ever get gusts of wind, so they wouldn't shatter.

I found this online, but you should be able to find some good pics of options for the iron worker.

I liked this one to hang on the wall:

If you put something like this on the wall under the skylight - for instance the left side of the arch, on that wall, it would catch the light from above, maybe.

Here's a photo of the idea I have in mind, as far as using the fishing swivels, and you could add some colored beads in-between if you wanted to:

I also wonder if you might find somewhere outside to hang them.

That's perfect! I have that same black trim on some furniture. Thx!
