My bedroom walls are a dark mocha color with bright white trim. I was thinking of paining the ceiling a blue gray color like I did my closet. What do you guys think? Or is it better to leave it the off white?

Depends how high is your ceiling. Some colors bring it visually down.

I truly think it will be a huge mistake. I've tried light colors on my ceilings and it truly looks terrible. My ceilings are even higher than yours---10 feet.

All my ceilings are painted the same color, kinda like a light blush color, each room is a different color, but all coordinating. I like it, it looks better than stark white, because, white really sometimes does not match the decor.
But you said you have white trim, so that could make it OK. My trim is the same color as the walls and I like it like that so my blush-y ceilings work.

You can always paint over what you don't like, so it really is not a big deal.

I have been in houses where the ceilings were painted sky blue with clouds sponged on. Actually a pleasant effect.

I was also in a house where one bedroom had what is popularly known as the confederate flag painted across the entire ceiling and another had a black ceiling with a red Swastika centered on the ceiling fan. I don't know if it was the color or the symbolism, but that ceiling felt LOW

I've seen it done nicely a few times and have actually been wanting to try it in my new house but I always chicken out. I did it once in my old apartmenrt but the room had no crown molding and I actually painted the bottom three quarters of the walls a light brown called "cup or cocoa" and the top quarter and the ceiling a cream color called "haze" it was very beautiful and relaxing, almost looked like a cappuccino.

Be careful Like someone said it can make the ceiling feel low and it can also darken the room. The color you mentioned sound nice though...

One thing though, usually when you are going to paint the ceilings you paint them first THEN the walls. It's hard not to drip on the walls when painting over head so be extra careful and have a little paint ready to touch up the walls.

Old painter's trick-
Add one cup (8oz) of wall color to one gal. of ceiling white. Works with just about every color except RED.
It softens the stark white with a coordinating shade of the wall color.

Thank you :>)

We brought the ceiling color down 1/2 foot and angled the crown molding to hold rope lights. All walls are venitian plaster but different textures from rough to almost velvet and so are the ceilings.

I don't have a white ceiling in my house, which has 8 foot ceilings.

Some ceiling colors are from the same strip as the walls, just lighter.
Some ceilings are the same color as the walls.
Some are a different color entirely.

Do what YOU like in YOUR place!
